Contract signing ceremony for the ABD Grant scheme beneficiaries from the cross-border regions of “Drina-Tara” and “Drina-Sava”, 9th November, 2016 in Zlatibor, Serbia

The Standing Working Group for Regional Rural Development (SWG) in SEE organized the official Contract signing ceremony for ABD Grant scheme beneficiaries from the cross-border regions of “Drina-Tara” and “Drina-Sava” on 9th November 2016 on Zlatibor, Serbia.

The contracts for the grants have been signed by 25 beneficiaries from the City of Uzice, the Municipalities of Čajetina, Prijepolje, Bajina Bašta, Loznica, Bogatić, Šabac (Serbia), Višegrad, Rudo, Bratunac, Ugljevik, Brčko District (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Pljevlja (Montenegro).

The aim of our joint project is to create integrated tourism product based on the adequately valorized natural, cultural and historical heritage on the territory of Uzice city and Cajetina municipality. This grant is very important for the City of Uzice and our partners on the project, since Uzice is trying to position itself on the tourist market by becoming more recognizable for the Uzice Republic, National Historical Museum and Memorial complex Kadinjaca, said Mr. Boban Perisic, director of the Tourism Organization of Uzice, Serbia.

Mr. Srpko Baranac, owner of Rooms for renting “Kruna” from Visegrad, Bosnia and Herzegovina, stated that with this grant he will install a heating system on solar panels and pumps in the accommodation facilities, which will improve his business with reduction of costs and extension of the tourist season.

The President of the Stakeholder Group for the cross-border region of “Drina-Tara”, Mrs. Olivera Todorovic (director of the Tourism Organization of Visegrad) said that: our stakeholder group is functional and the investments for small businesses supported by SWG are very important for tourism development, agriculture, enviroment and cross-border cooperation.

Ms. Snezana Peric, director of the Tourism Organization of Loznica, stated that the investment which will be underthaken within the grant will provide opportunity for promotion of the tourisim potential, not only of the city of Loznica, but also the entire cross-border region „Drina-Sava“, by becoming more accessible for tourists and partners.

Mr. Krsto Simic, president of the beekeping association „Majevicka kosnica“ from Ugljevik, Bosnia and Herzegovina, pointed out that the grant will be used for developing beekeiping, which helped the promotion of honey production as an economic sector with high potential in the Drina-Sava region.

The total value of the investments, together with the beneficiaries’ own contribution, will exceed a quarter of a million euros (266,000 EUR). Some beneficiaries are partly supported with contributions from the local governments. All Grant scheme investments are foreseen to be implemented by May 2017.

The ABD Grant scheme is implemented by the Standing Working Group for Regional Rural Development (SWG) in partnership with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and financially supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Development Cooperation (BMZ), within the project ”Rural development through integrated forest and water resources management (LEIWW)”.

The ABD Grant Scheme is supported and facilitated by the European Union funded project “Fostering regional cooperation and balanced territorial development of Western Balkan countries in the process towards EU integration” implemented by the SWG.
