This year, the 23rd International Drina Regatta gathered around 20.000 rafters on the Drina River, which is 20% more than the last year. It is estimated that around 100.000 tourists visited Bajina Basta during the whole event.
Opening the event, Mr. Aleksandar Vulin, Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy of the Republic of Serbia stated that this event represents a tourist brand of Serbia, thanks to enthusiasts, and sincere lovers of the Drina River. He expressed gratitude to all those who immeasurably helped Drina Regatta to become well known all round the world.
Starting point of the race was on the Perucac Lake. The volunteers shared plastic trash bags with instructions for proper waste disposal before and during the Regatta. All the necessary information was available at the branded info point.
During the music festival “Most Fest”, which was organized at the ending point of the race in Raca, through activity the “Throw in PET for a cleaner World”, wire containers for PET and metal bottles were placed on several locations. In the period from 22nd-24th July, around 30 t of wet waste and dry waste was collected, out of which coloured pet 3%, non-colored pet 4%, and hard pet 4%. After the completion of the event the waste was transported by PUC “12. septembar”, Bajina Basta to the Regional landfill “Duboko” in Uzice, for final selection. The environmental actions were carried out by 20 volunteers from the NGO “Eko –planeri”, “Bios” and “Eko-land“ from Bajina Basta.
The environmental actions were supported by the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in South-Eastern Europe within the EU project “Fostering regional cooperation and balanced territorial development of Western Balkan countries in the process towards EU integration”.
