More than 200 raspberry producers from Uzice, Cajetina, Bajina Basta, Nova Varos (Serbia), Bratunac and Srebrenica (Bosnia and Herzegovina) participated in the regional event “Gatherings of raspberry producers-Raspberry there’s more to it” held in Uzice in the period 24-26 February, 2017.
The objective of this regional event was to exchange experience between raspberry producers within the cross-border region “Drina – Tara” and support for improvement of the production in this region. Professor Adnan Malicevic from the Agricultural Faculty in Sarajevo provided theoretical and practical advices which could be applied in the forthcoming season. Field visits of the young and older raspberry orchards were conducted at the Agricultural household Dragan Eric from Sevojno, as an example of good practice.
Deputy Mayor of the City of Uzice, Mr. Nemanja Nesic, stated that “the local authority is trying to find instruments to support people which are interested to start with the raspberry production and ones which are dealing successfully with this production and our aim as well is to provide them support so that they can achieve higher production and income.”
“Since I am a beekeeper and a great lover of land, I think that these lecturers will provide me basic knowledge of the raspberry production and I would like to connect these two agricultural sectors”, said agricultural producer Mr. Mihailo Masal from Uzice.
As a complementary to the event, on the first day it was organized a promotion and degustation of products made from raspberry: Bio Spirit from Arilje (juice and syrup), Sirogojno Co. from Sirogojno (dried and lyophilized raspberry, jam) and Distillery Simic from Bajina Basta (raspberry brandy and other brandies).
This regional event contributed to the networking of raspberry producers, cross-border cooperation and improvement of knowledge in this sector of agriculture.
The regional manifestation is supported within the EU funded project: ”Fostering regional cooperation and balanced territorial development of Western Balkan countries in the process towards EU integration” implemented by SWG.
