The Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in South-Eastern Europe within the project: “Rural development through integrated forest and water resources management in Southeast Europe: Rural perspectives: qualification, reintegration and (self) employment” supported the organization of the Event “Golden hands of the Drina region (Podrinje)” which was organized by Tourist Organization of Visegrad and which was held in the period from 2-3 June 2018 in Visegrad, Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina

This aim of the event is promotion of traditional handicrafts and food of the region. The exhibition gathered 30 participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro at the UNESCO Bridge over Drina.

At the opening of the event, the representative of the Standing Working Group for Regional Rural Development (SWG), Danica Nešević, expressed willingness to continue with support to regional events which are strengthening connections between the tourism industry and the producers of domestic products from the cross- border region of “Drina-Tara”. She pointed out that through exhibition of products and food tasting, regional event Golden hands of the Drina region will demonstrate how food and tradition can be drivers of rural development.

The event was officially opened by the Mayor of the Municipality of Visegrad, Mr. Mladen Đurević, who thanked to all exhibitors for participation at this event, thus contributing to the efforts of the Visegrad Municipality to promote the tourist offer of Višegrad. He also pointed out that more and more tourists are visiting Visegrad and that local authority will continue to support events contributing to the further development of tourism.

On the first day of the event for exhibitors, was organized a lecture on the topic “Placement of agricultural products through rural tourism” conducted by Professor Radomir Stojanović as well as a joint dinner for all participants. On the second day, for all the interested exhibitors was organized a filed trip with boat ride and visit to the rural household “Stari Brod” as an example of good practice in promoting and developing of rural tourism.
