May Day gathering is a traditional event which has been organized for the last five decades in the Municipality of Bijelo Polje. The event promotes tradition, local products, sports activities and protection of the environment.
Part of activities were organized in the village Zaton. Organizers of the event were the Primary school ”Braca Ribar”, NGO “21th May”, Tourism Organization of Bijelo Polje and the Municipality of Bijelo Polje. Due to the bad weather conditions, the final football tournament was postponed for Sunday, 22th May. At the opening ceremony more than 300 visitors were welcomed with the national anthem and a traditional gusle player.
The tournaments were organized at the new football pitch specially built for this occasion, with new installed led lighting. The event had international character, where 10 football teams out of 22 in total from Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo* competed in the final match.
“We have taken all measures of precaution to play fair and good football. This tournament has gained good reputation and I think that this was one of the best organized small football tournaments” – said Ivan Bojovic, organizer.
Seven local producers from the cross-border region “Drina- Tara” promoted traditional products and handicrafts at the mini fair. The exhibitors from Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia presented their traditional products made from marigold, medicinal herbs, wooden handicrafts, woolen garments, etc. Participants were attracted by the small exhibition of recycled cars presented by family company “Busara”, from Village Srdjevac, Bijelo Polje. Also, the participants could enjoy the paragliding acrobats.
A children competition in chess will be organized on the 25th May, as well as ecological actions, where 200 seedlings of spruce tree will be planted during next week in the school yard of “Braca Ribar” in the village Zaton in cooperation with Directorate for Forestry.
This type of activities will create preconditions for improvement of the quality of living of the inhabitants of village Zaton, in the cross-border region “Drina –Tara“.
This activity is part of the EU funded project: “Fostering regional cooperation and balanced territorial development of Western Balkan countries in the process towards EU integration” implemented by the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in South-Eastern Europe and is related to facilitation of ABD approach in the cross border region “Drina-Tara”.
